Start time: 8:45 A.M.
Distance today: 66.6 miles
Average speed: 15.2 mph
End time: 4:37 P.M.
Top speed: 33.7 mph
Temperature and weather conditions: Apparently this is a normal SC temperature
for the late may season. It was very hot and dry again today.
Total trip distance: 2,866.7 Miles (since start on April 2,
2000)
The riders today included Roman. He has returned! Charles, Lydia and
Danny also endured the heat and almost 70 miles.
The
ride seemed to go quickly, although we were out for a lengthy time.
When we arrived in Summerville we stopped at the Fazoli’s Restaurant.
All the staff have worked hard to sell the bike for a buck cards.
These cards were all over the walls and ceiling. The funds will go
to ACS. The Fazoli restaurants have raised over $10,000 for cancer research.
In addition to this drive, Fazoli’s is a major sponsor of the WCSC, channel
5 show that will be aired this Sunday before 60 minutes. Without their
support this show, Channel 5’s participation, and likely Danny’s efforts,
would not have been attainable.

When we arrived at our hotel Sadie and Floyd washed the dirty motor
home and trailer. Danny had an interview. Charles, Lydia and Roman showered.
Sean worked the phones hard to set up more interviews for tomorrow and
Sunday. The motor coach is now shinny and spotlessly clean.
After Fazoli's we continued
on our way and arrived at our hotel at 4:30. At 6:00 we traveled to
the local little league fields to watch
Will Austin, a 9 year old who has withstood 108 chemotherapy treatments.
Will suffers from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). He played an excellent
game, leading his team to victory. Following the game we ate at Western
Sizzler with Will’s family.
We are in Goose Creek at
the Days Inn. We hope to depart by 8:30 A.M. Our course will lead us
down Highway 52 (River’s Avenue). We will follow
this road to Meeting Street and then right onto Spring Street. We will
make a short stop at New Orleans Ribs and Buffet. We plan to depart form
there by 10:30 and head to the parking lot on Folly near Ft. Johnson
Rd. We will arrive at this lot before noon. We will have a small sound
system set up to play our theme song. While there we will answer any
questions about our efforts and experiences.
The helicopter is due between 1:00-1:30. We will depart when it arrives.
It will take aerial shots as we head to the Atlantic Ocean. By 2:00 we
will be on the pier, at the very eastern end, addressing the audience.
