Hills, Hills, and more Hills, or should we say Mountains?
Another great ride! We started out with overcast skies which turned
into light rain about 11:30 A.M. We had some hard climbs but still managed
to average 14.2 miles per hour. This was the longest distance we have
traveled in many days. It was also the most climbing we have done in
a long time. When we finished, we felt great. We actually wanted to go
further, but there were no more hotels east. So we had to load up in
the motor home and head back west, then north, to find a room.

As we rounded a curve going into Rockwood, TN, Charles spotted radio
station - WCFE. We shared our story with Anita Clem, the General Sales
Manager and Dudley Evans, the news director. He escorted Danny to the
studio and recorded the session for broadcast, which they are going to
air several times. They also will broadcast it on WUFX FM. Anita and
Dudley both had family members with cancer.
After Rockwood, we came upon a beautiful lake. We could not pass the
park bench on the edge of the lake. It was a great rest.
Charles is doing great -
no problems. Yesterday his stomach was a problem. Today, my stomach
was upset until about 4:00 P.M. I could only eat saltines
and take some settling medicine. But after we ate, in the late after
noon, I felt a lot better. We ate at Dinner Bell - what a meal! Good
Ole home cooking. Then we got back on the bikes and finished the last
24 miles. We’re spending the night across from the Knoxville airport.
It is between Maryville and Knoxville.
Tomorrow should be very interesting as will be riding in the Smokey
Mountains. Our route will take us to Gatlenberg, TN. We will travel along
route 321 to route 73. The total distance tomorrow is less than 40 miles,
but we have lots of climbing. Floyd left us after we checked in and traveled
over 100 miles to inspect our two options for travel. He is a very hard
working and capable team member. We are fortunate to have his high level
of perfection and expertise.
We are excited that Roman will rejoin us on Monday, after his graduation
on Saturday. We are also very excited about the upcoming Relay for Life
at Waynesville, NC.
