After a large breakfast we departed from Charleston, Mo. Since we had
eaten a late and very filling lunch at Lambert's, we did not eat dinner
last night. We crossed the street from our motel and enjoyed a buffet
at the truck stop.
After
11 miles we crossed a long bridge and large river, the Mississippi. This
put us into Illinois. Then we rode less than a 1/8th of a mile and peddled
across another long bridge. that crossed the Ohio River. These two rivers
are very different. The Mississippi is brown and very wide, but the Ohio
is blue and not quite as wide. After crossing the Ohio we were in Kentucky.

Sean set up Danny with a radio interview and a TV interview after we
arrived. The TV station reaches 300,000 people in three states. The radio
broadcast anticipated an audience of 175,000. The interviews will be
aired today and tomorrow.
Charles had a situation today. At a stop light, as we entered Paducah,
his bike started to gear down by itself, and it got really hard to pedal.
As we took off from the light, he could not get the shifter to move to
a lower gear. There were several hundred yards of mono-filament fishing
line around his rear gears, derailer, and his brakes. We pulled over
and Danny pulled out his knife and helped clear the line until we could
get to our hotel.
We ended our trek today in
the quiet town of Peducah, KY. We enjoyed a feast at CC Cohen’s restaurant.
After the meal we walked the Tennessee River, which runs near by. We
also visited the quilt museum.
We are enjoying the NBA and will sleep soundly, soon. We will probably
not make it out of Kentucky tomorrow. There appears to be a strong front
heading this way, so we hope to depart early and stop early.
Tomorrow is Danny and
Lynda’s anniversary. Please join all in wishing
them the best!
