After a semi-restful night - there were several soccer teams in our "home" last
night - we headed for our last stop in Missouri. The road was very
flat and smooth, not even one hill today. The shoulder and the road were
cement.
We were able to average the fastest speed of our trip, but there was
some hurt and pain.
Our
pace quickly put us at our first planned stop in Sikeston, Mo. When we
pulled into the parking lot and asked the host how long for a table,
we were told 45 minutes. So Danny and Charles changed their wet cloths
for dry. There were many games to play while waiting. Danny and Sean
played stand up checkers. After we were assigned a service number they
called for DHS, a party of 122. It was a high school group that had arrived
in three busses. Our wait was actually over one hour, but it was well
worth the pause in our day.
The highlight of the day was our stop at Lambert’s Restaurant in Sikeston.
Lambert’s is a fourth generation eatery known for its throwing bread
waiters. All items on the menu are under ten dollars and every item
is all you can eat. Danny had catfish and did not order a seconds.
Floyd
had BBQ beef and was unable to finish his first serving. Sean had the
same problem with his chop, and Charles had a veggie plate and ordered
only more cornbread and green beans. The cups were 52 oz.
After
our bellies were pleasantly full, we changed cloths and road the last
14 miles of our day into Charleston. This is our last night in this state.
Tomorrow we will enter Kentucky - for only two nights. We plan to stay
in Paduca. Then it will take almost a week to cross Tennessee. We plan
to take off the weekend to visit Danny’s son’s family, Danny Jr. We
look forward to seeing many friends and family from Charleston, SC
that will
make the trip.
Our legs, especially around our knees and hamstrings, are burning from
the push to increase our average speed today. The muscles are having
little spasms and shake every once in awhile.
