Starts time: 9:57 A.M.
Distance today: 62 miles
Average speed: 17.8 mph
End time: 3:46 P.M.
Top speed: 27.4 mph
Temp and weather conditions: It was fairly warm by the time we started
today. The wind was at our backs most of the day until the very end when
it was hard at our face.
Total trip distance: 1,611.1 Miles (since start on April 2,
2000)
We did get to ride today, but first we were fortunate to have a live
radio call in. Again we asked the audience to beep if they saw us. This
time we asked them to beep 3 times. The interview was over 15 minutes
and it was live the entire time. We were beeped at 3 times all day! Sean,
our Director of Communications, did a great job picking this radio station.
Then
we had a TV station follow us and do an interview. On our route we stopped
at a newspaper in Derby and had another interview and pictures.
The message we carry in this public session is the importance of early
detection and treatment. Danny’s speaks from the heart, and that grabs
the audience’s attention. That is why the radio station kept him on
the air for over 15 minutes.
Our ride today was to stop in Derby, but we felt so excited from the
press and the beeps that we rode more towards our next stop. It was obvious
when we were not tired at 30 miles that we are coming around with good
legs and lungs.
We hope to ride early tomorrow before the Kansas wind starts to blow
from the East, which we predict will be on our nose all day if we start
late.
