Start time: 8:02 A.M.
Avg. Speed: 17.3 mph
End time 3:30 P.M.
Total distance today: 72.9 miles
Temp/conditions: the wind grew stronger as the sun rose. Thankfully we
were almost complete with our ride by the time it really blew hard. It
was always to our 3:00/shoulder.
The riders got an early start today. This was a nice lift. The traffic
was nil, since it was Saturday.
Our legs and lungs are obviously strengthening. The first two hours
of the ride we averaged 20.1 miles per hour. This is flying for us. When
we first started almost 3 weeks ago a 12 mph average was hard to maintain.
There
were no towns between our departure city of Walsenberg, CO. and our destination
city of La Junta, CO. The road was smooth. The only obstacle today was
the horrendous odor of freely plowed fields; the manner used to enrich
them. The land and road was flat all day. No hills or mountains was a
welcome treat.
The power cable for our computer did not arrive. The company we ordered
it from failed to ship it. It will know be shipped to Dodge City, KA.
We expect to have it Tuesday morning.
Danny’s health is very strong. His skinny legs are bulging at the thighs.
He is no longer jumping into the back of the motor home after the picnic
and the first half of the ride. If he continues to improve and strengthen
we may be in South Carolina very soon. When we completed the 70 mile
segment today, he wanted to ride another 50 miles so we could take
off part of tomorrow. The wind was really too strong, so Roman and I
convinced
him to get into the hotel and shower.
Danny enjoyed watching the NBA games this afternoon.
That’s all for Saturday, April 22, 2000.
We dearly miss being able to get on line and keep in touch with all.
