After a great nights sleep we departed from the First Inn in
Pagosa Springs, Co. at 9:30 A.M. We had planned to depart by
8:00, but is was way to cold. The temperature was 22 degrees
at 7:00 and 28 degrees by 8:00.
Danny
used the time, while we waited for it to reach 32, to meet with
several hotel guests. It is amazing home many people have been
touched by cancer. The guests stayed and listened, enjoyed his
booklet, and asked many questions. Danny is in his element when
he can share his experiences. In fact, last night he went to
the home of a person (they do not want their name listed) with
pancreatic cancer. Danny missed dinner to meet with this family
and share his experiences.
The riders had a mild climb for the first 12 miles, then the
climb stated. Just at the end, before the climb stated, there
is a water fall.
The
mountain was posted with signs saying the incline was only 6%.
It took us over 3 hours to beet this mountain. Wolf Creek Pass
is now tamed. All three riders perfumed with the compassion and
drive of a champion team. Often we stopped to lay down. The air
was cold and the altitude effected all of them. At the top, a
picture was taken.
The trek down was swift. Sean biked with the crew. The average
speed was 37 mph down and 3.8 mph up (almost walking).
We are now in Soft Pass, about 10 miles from Alamosa, Co.
Our other computer is not working, so the exact distance is
a guess, but we feel we are close to 920 miles. We expect to
be out of Colorado by end of week and in the state of Kansas.
